Personality
amame is bubbly and good-natured despite the struggles in her life. she lives with her mother following her parents divorce and works long hours at a part-time job to assist her father financially, as he retained custody of her younger brother.
though under a lot of stress and pressure, she maintains a plucky exterior and doesn't want anyone to know her circumstances or to pity her for them. naturally charismatic, she is one of the highest earners at the mermaid-themed maid cafe she works at, able to turn on the charm to get big tips.
she has a very open-heart to all people, no matter their appearance or beliefs, but can be vindictive towards those who have wronged the people she cares for. this can sometimes lead to rash decisions made under emotional duress. though she always tries to make the best decision in the moment, she often dwells if she could have made a better choice.

History
amame's family consists of her divorced parents and younger brother -- she lives with her mother and her brother with their father.
her father's middling career as a comedian doesn't make him much money, so she started working part-time at a maid cafe to support him and (more importantly) her brother. she lied about her age to her employer to get around the legal limits of how many hours she can work as a student, but the money she could earn doing so won out over her conscience. her friend circle is small but tight, however she doesn't let them know how much pressure she feels having to balance school and work.
she is in love with gen ishiyagane, an older man who owns a restaurant and hides his physical disfigurement under a costume. they are not officially in a relationship, but share a bond built on kindness and sharing their woes with one another. he is the person she trusts most and turns to when she needs help.
